How is this site structured?

The website offers two types of content units:

• EUphact: a comprehensive review of a public health topic. It is linked to one or two ECHI Indicators and includes:
• text, written (and reviewed) by health experts;
• data, presented in tables, graphs and maps, highlighting trends and comparing countries; and
• hyperlinks to more information, related projects and organisations.

• EUphocus: a comprehensive review of a broader policy-relevant health topic. It links interrelated EUphacts and also includes text, data presentations and hyperlinks.

EUphacts and EUphoci have separate tabs. Some EUphact items are limited to data presentations for particular ECHI indicators. Additional information will be added in the near future.

EUphacts consist of several standard chapters

Every EUphact consists of several standard chapters displayed in the introductory page. Different categories, however, follow a different structure. For example, EUphacts in the Health policies category differ from those in the Health status category.

Example of a EUphact structure

• Knowledge chapters: Summary, Definition and scope, Occurrence, Mortality, Consequences for individual and society, Causes and risk factors, Interventions;
• Links: Related EUphacts, EUphoci and ECHI indicators, Relevant databases, organisations and projects;
• Data presentations: tables, figures, maps, some of them interactive;
• Background information: Authors, editors and reviewers; Literature and data sources.

EUphoci have a flexible structure

EUphoci, unlike EUphacts, have a flexible structure, depending on the topic that is being presented. This allows other EU public health projects to use EUPHIX as a medium to communicate project results.

How do I quote EUPHIX documents?

If clearly referenced, information from the EUPHIX website is free to use for non-commercial purposes. We appreciate it if you could report the use of EUPHIX materials at info@euphix.org.

If you want to refer to the general EUPHIX website, reference it as follows:

If you want to refer to specific EUPHIX web documents, at the bottom of every document page, under the yellow line, you will find the sentence to refer to the page. For example:

If you want to refer to or use specific data presentations (tables, graphs or maps), you should refer to the original data source, as well as to the relevant EUPHIX document. In case you only use the data underlying the data presentations (e.g. to make your own figures), you should refer to the original data source.

Use of materials under copyright

In some instances EUPHIX makes use of materials which are under copyright. These can be recognized by the statement: ‘reproduced with permission from …’. In case you want to use these materials, you need to seek permission from the copyright holder.

Who is the author of the EUPHIX document?

The authors of the document are mentioned at the bottom of each document (under the yellow line). In the print version you will find their names on the top of the page. The authors, the editors and the reviewers can be found in the document ‘Authors, editors and reviewers’ which is present in each EUphact and EUphocus.

Ways to find information

The sitemap lists links to all the different pages in a website, providing an outline of the EUPHIX website structure.

EUPHIX provides pop-ups with references that are presented in the text, explanation of abbreviations, as well as definitions and explanations of the less-well-known and technical terms.

How do the interactive maps work?

For some topics interactive maps are available. Where an interactive option is available this will be indicated in the title. Open the interactive map by clicking on the title (either from within the body of text or from the document Figures, underlying data and maps). Then click on the button Indicators and the subsequent indicator to see available years and sub-indicators. To select a particular country, click in the map, graph or table on the country of your choice and it will be highlighted. Remove your selection by clicking on the Clear button. Useful tip: pressing F11 gives a full screen view of the interactive map.

How to print from the EUPHIX-website?

If you want to print a document from the EUPHIX website, open the document to be printed and select 'print' from your browser menu.

If you want to print all documents from one subject (e.g. lung cancer) at once, go to the subject page and select 'print' from your browser menu.

The printing format is compatible with Internet Explorer (I.E.) version 7. Printing in portrait format could result in incomplete print-outs when using an older I.E. version or another browser. In that case we advise you to print in landscape format.
